Santee Cooper’s Green Power is electricity that we generate from renewable resources, like wind, solar and landfill gas (methane gas naturally occurring as garbage decomposes in landfills). Santee Cooper Green Power helps preserve the environment for future generations, reduces demand on our non-renewable natural resources and increases our energy independence.
Green-e certifies Santee Cooper Green Power, meaning what we produce meets strict and specific national environmental standards. Our Green Power generating portfolio includes six landfill generating stations, four solar arrays and one wind turbine.
Santee Cooper also has 20 Green Power Solar School demonstration projects generating power for the local host school, at 20 middle schools around the state and in cooperation with South Carolina’s electric cooperatives. For more information about the Solar School project click here.
