GOFER, Give Oil For Energy Recovery, is Santee Cooper's used motor oil collection and recovery program. Santee Cooper started the GOFER program to give Do-It-Yourselfers all over South Carolina a convenient place to properly dispose of their used motor oil.
It began in 1990 as an Earth Day project with three oil collection sites. GOFER has grown to a statewide program with more than 450 do-it-yourselfer collection sites. The GOFER program also collects used oil from approximately 1500 industries, commercial operations, and farms.
*Currently gasoline/oil mixtures are only accepted at SCDHEC approved sites.
Santee Cooper Serviced oil collection tanks are located in almost every county of South Carolina. After Santee Cooper collects the used motor oil, it is used as a fuel to generate electricity at our Jefferies Generating Station. At each collection site, responsible citizens deposit their used oil into a collection tank. The oil is then picked up by one of Santee Cooper's GOFER collection trucks.
